A large 320 page photo archive of the inner workings of Axis, its numerous projects (past/present), comments about the history of the label, its endeavers and much more. Also included, a 30 track compilation of the essential tracks in the Axis catalogue by Jeff Mills.

The title showcases the “art, photo and design” work of the imprint’s two-decade run, and comes complete with a USB card of 30 tracks. Looking over the tracklist, there are only three unreleased compositions—”Unfastened and Floating,” “Le Mer et C’est Un Caractere” and “At Sunset” (a previous unreleased version of “Time Slip” is also included). Considering the varied sources from which Mills has taken the tracks that make up the retrospective, however, it stands to reason that few will have a majority of its contents. (For those who do, all the tunes have been remastered for the occasion.)

The book itself is a hardcover coffee table-styled tome that has plenty of photographs from Mills’ many tours and conceptual projects, as well as a text from the man himself explaining the creation of the label. (“I felt the World had enough record labels that practiced the art of Music without true purpose.”) Also included are photos of merchandise that was crafted over the years for the Axis shop, including household items like wrenches, flashlights, neck ties and motor helmets.
