Telonius – Swimsuit

Following on from his debut album, ‘Inter Face’, released on his own hugely respected Gomma label which he co-runs with old friend Munk, Telonius will serve up a single from it, ‘Swimsuit’, complete with remixes from Mr Jools, Apple Juice & Black Soul and a club dub. The album itself is a compendium of house, funk and disco that is alive with the sound of organic production and real instrumentation, and this single is the perfect embodiment of that vibe. ‘Swimsuit’ is a hip swinging, ass shaking and hand clapping disco-funk gem with tinkling cow bells, lush synth patterns and a spoken word vocal that makes it as catchy and anthem as it is musical and feel-good.

As well as a chunky club dub version, Apple Juice & Blacksoul team up to turn in a stripped back and more dance-floor facing remix. The synths here are much more robotic and future facing, with plenty of vamping chords and crescendos of tension throughout. It’s one for the middle of the night rather than the early evening warm up, as is the Mr Jools remix. The Montenegro based producer who has released on labels like Nervous re-imagines the track as a funky house affair. The spoken vocals take on an extra air of breezy cool with Jools’ nebulous synths and melodies, whilst his dub version is slight more frazzled and strung out.
