Having debuted on the Melbourne Deepcast label earlier this year with a one track contribution to the MDC Mates 12″, the clearly talented Max Graef offers up a fuller demonstration of his skills on the MPC buttons for the label. The Love Tapes EP is apparently borne out of a case of the breakups and relocation to Australia, and it’s clear a change in environment has benefitted Graef as the four cuts here are superb. His talent for dusty, sample laden house which has previously earned him spots on FOTO and Tartelet is in abundance here, but Graef’s capacity to play around with rhythm and sound is what sets him apart from the average deep house producer. “A Tale Of Love” is the stand out track for us, featuring the best fuzz edged bassline since Mr Scruff’s take on the Capoeira Twins.
