Answer Code Request steps out of the Berghain shadows with a noirish debut album of ’90s-informed techno sound design for Ostgut Ton. ‘Til now, ACR’s made his presence felt with a small but perfectly formed haul of 12″s distinguished from the Berlin techno crowd by virtue of their UK-styled breakbeat and AI-era atmospheres. But where UK breakbeat techno might get over agitated or crazy, ACR curbs his enthusiasm with a typically stoic sort of composure indigenous to Berlin residents and their music, balancing both poles with a warm sense of Detroit melancholy, much like his label mate, Shed.
