Label founder Alexey Gordiyenko delivers a release that at times delves into the esoteric take on techno. “Farewell” is a widescreen ambient soundtrack, while the equally cinematic “Departure” and “Plectron 2” are based on rhythm tracks that alternate between clicky minimalism and Detroit-style 808s. However, there is also a darker side to Exploit’s sound and this finds its expression on “Utopia”, a percussive techno affair full of 303 licks and “Zero Gravity”, where jagged percussive shards and pounding beats create a truly menacing vibe. Despite this, Exploit’s standout work is based on esoteric sounds, most notably the tripped out synths of “Diving into Wormhole.”
