Hypercolour’s James Welsh steps up for the first release on Dense & Pika’s Kneaded Pains label. Potentially named after Swiss philosopher and TV presenter Katja Gentinetta, this EP sees Welsh explore brash and brawny techno, as per the label’s remit. ‘Trail Boss’, with its booming bassline and shuddering kicks, is decorated with siren-like synths. The title track is a dark beast, with modulated frequencies growing and expanding like scientific function gone wrong, all underpinned by jungle breaks and judding percussion. ‘Siglo’ makes melody out of distortion, a thing of beauty amidst terror.
