The latest missive on Cadenza’s digital offshoot comes from Lewis Boardman, a man whose releases have been few and far between since he made his debut on NRK back in 2010. Rambunctious finds him in fine form, with lead cut “Werk It” delivering a punchy tech-house roller built around a dense, locked-in groove, loose additional percussion and just the right amount of subtle musicality. Boardman turns to humid, tropical techno on the standout “Home” – think African-influenced rhythms, heavy bass and sleazy late night vocal samples – before climaxing with “Rubber Johnny”, an after party-friendly chunk of glassy-eyed minimal rave. With surprisingly swinging grooves and shuffling cymbal patterns aplenty, it feels like a proper late night jam.
