Faugust is a new alias for Hotflush regular Sigha dedicated to sounds of a more exotic, leftfield nature. This first 10″ under the pseudonym – released on Shifted’s well-regarded Mira imprint – features a quartet of intriguing compositions. Check, for example, the droning atmosphere and intoxicating textures of ambient closer “Against the Sea”, or the krautrock-goes-shoegaze-in-India vibes of humid opener “Penitence”. Or, for that matter, the grandiose synth melodies, alien chords and skittish IDM rhythms of “Persuasion”, which sounds like Autechre’s “Basscadet” after a few too many cups of mushroom tea. The cinematic ambience of “A New You” completes a superb package.
