Techno was always meant to invoke images of the future. Whether dystopian or utopic, you want your music to inspire otherworldly images and ideas. Enter American producer Allen as the newest addition to the M_Rec Ltd roster…
His 4-tracks EP embraces the set of values and intentions that were dear to the pioneers of the genre, while still delivering some incredibly exciting dance floor oriented material.
Opener ‘Gravity Assist’ is a trippy refrain that can set the right tone at the beginning of any serious set. Sharp and hypnotic, it moves forward carrying the listener into the atmospheric landscapes we all want to be taken to on a good night. ‘EM26’ continues the journey and gets a little bit more aggressive, with a set of layers made with harsher sounds… It’s still an organic vibe, intelligible dark sci-fi for devoted techno heads.
On the flip side, ‘MH370’ gets more crepuscular and introverted, while still showing off a good amount of muscle. Its beat is forward driving and stomping, while the melodies celebrate those esoteric and uncharted territories that have surfaced with the brainy and experimental techno we’ve seen emerging in the past few years. Closing off the EP is ‘Kepler’. Darker and grittier than the rest of the tracks, it showcases the talent of a new artist whose name we’ll likely start hearing more and more often.
