Verrina & Ventura, otherwise known for their label (together with Polarize) All Inn Records prepare and serve the next release on Italian Only300 Family Records. Much like the “only 300” suggests, the original tracks while being clean sounding and dj/club/crowd friendly have a strong root in the underground.
Throughout the originals on disc 1, the Italian duo makes a point of using vocal samples in and around relatively stripped back simple repetitive patterns, much like a shaman would use a drum to put the listener under a spell.
Just the way we like it. On disc 2, we see an interesting combination of remixers starting off with the joyful and fortunate marriage (for us and every dance floor around the world) of Praslea and Raresh as Praslesh. Their reimagined version keeps the same mood of the original but adding a slightly more bouncy feel throughout by ways of an exquisitely programmed and a touch detuned bass line. BirdsMakingMachine close the circle with an equally playful remix of “Il Pavone di Oz” that gives the impression of a live improvisation somewhere in a Parisian setting, but we’re sure that it’s just one of the places you’ll hear it in the next months.
The 2 disc package certainly has something for everyone and albeit sampling vocal gibberish into a coherent effort is a tall order, and often its on a very thin ice before backfiring into GaGa territory, Verrina & Ventura manage to pull it off.
