Deeply entrenched in Berlin’s underground house and techno scene from its emergence, Philip Bader has played at most of the city’s iconic parties and clubs over the years. 2015 sees a true legend make his full debut on Out Of Mind Records, a label he has himself founded and will be curating. And it is well and truly worth the wait. The German stalwart delivers a hedonistic two track EP that places distinctive bassline-led grooves at the centre of a sound that is bristling with personality, energy and adventure.

With a powerful kick drum announcing the track, “Never Stop” immediately sets out its stall as a visceral tech groover with a funky, grooving bass note. Rapid-fire drum machines skitter across the top, driving momentum forward. Remixers Kaiserdisco bring their funky, soul grooving edge into the mix with their remix of “Never Stop”, bringing a nice balance of funk, percussion and tribal aspects to the EP.

“Out Of Mind” is a jacking, lighter workout with a vintage bass sound as its backbone. Around the stabbing bass you have shuffling percussion, chopped up vocal FX and some wildly tumbling sounds that inject a sense of swing into proceedings. The power of the bottom end sweeps you up and pulls you along for the ride. Clearly in full on party mode, Bader has come into his own and set the bar high for his new label.
