Padre is a new UK producer exploring a wide range of ecstatic moods with delicate precision. His 2015 EPs on Derelicht and Traum Schallplatten ranged from the microtonal synth pop of Chasing Mirrors to the wonky proto-house of Wetherby and Six Sisters. Always elated yet understated, he uses complex structures to achieve relatively simplistic results. There are no templates here; every track has its own clear and separate identity. The Padre sound connects as a whole through its sense of childlike wonder offset by a necessary touch of worldly melancholy.

B Complex is Padre’s homage to the uncompromising electronica pioneers B12. It works around a lurching bassline that is rich with analog harmonics. The groove is fresh enough to create a special dance floor moment for for a crowd that knows.

Reverend Fingers uses a simple questioning housey chord pattern and dusty percussion answered by bubbling cut up effects and some showy live keyboard licks.

In The Mists is a hazy, slow burning, post sunrise jam. Layers of wide stereo vocal snippets combine with a distorted chord pattern and lumpy kick drum. Dazed and confused it may be, but the party doesn’t end here.
