Daydreaming is Niklas Worgt aka Dapayk Solo’s first record since 2016 – but it has been more than worth the wait. The title track is an intoxicating mixture of detuned minimal house rhythms mixed with flowing, evocative melodies. It’s unusual and distinctive, like vintage Mobilee fused with Boards of Canada’s bucolic sensibilities. How can the German producer top this? On “Warm Inside”, he manages to scale the same artistic heights, but with a different approach. Instead of the stripped back rhythm, he deploys a flowing, undulating bass. Combined with muffled vocal samples and more wide-eyed melodies, it makes for one of Dapayk Solo’s best records to date.
