Laut Und Luise Is a joint effort run between Berlin and Cologne that has had an impressive array of artists presented by them over the years, from the Giegling affiliated Dwig to Dutch trio Yor Kultura and label staple Constantijn Lange. It is now over to Essen’s Werner B of Subios Records fame – with some deep and textured house of the dubbier and atmospheric persuasion on the fittingly titled ‘Winter Dub’ EP. Beginning with the cold and cavernous reflections of “Hart & Sauer” which calls to mind Sven Weisemann’s more abstract works, there’s also the woozy off-kilter deepenss of “Lakritzraupe” that fuses with a Detroit-ish Three Chairs kind of soul and dustiness. The remix up next by Caterkarlos brings up the tempo a bit more and retains the evocative qualities, but still manages to inject more optimism. Finally “Schaumpilz” delves deeper into the abyss with its glacial, delay drenched aesthetics blissfully drifting away down a trail of reverb.
