More From This Label

EDGE begins 2018 by welcoming Mike Tohr to the label for his debut EP. Beginning his career in 2008, the Belgian based DJ and producer have trodden the waters of a deep and progressive house with an effortless ease. In addition to having his music showcased on Tale & Tone and Einmusika, Mike is a regular behind the decks at some of his country’s finest clubs, most notably Fuse, Ampere and Labyrinth, while also earning a spot on Dynamic’s stage at the world-renowned Tomorrowland festival. Now making his much anticipated EDGE debut Mike presents ‘The Last Zebra’ alongside a remix from Petar Dundov.

As the subject of much hype in the underground, the title track ‘The Last Zebra’ leads the release off. A staple in the sets of Mike and also EDGE label boss Eran Aviner, it’s poignant storyboard has been enchanting dance floors for the last several months. On a backbone of dulcet beats comes warm, fluid overlays and organic percussion, before eventually melting down into the second act of vibrant, heart-warming arpeggios. Subtle yet stirring, this melodic canopy elevates the mood before a timely drop ignites the grandiose finale.
The companion piece ‘Yoruba’ sits as a lovely complement to its predecessor, with a deeper and equally compelling story. Redolent beats and undulating bass tones set the journey in motion, as afro tinged drums and organic crackles fill in the framework. An indistinct vocal adds mystery, elevating the mood, becoming fully realized during a brief but timely break, shifting energy from serene to exuberant in one emotive rush.

The lone interpretation of ‘The Last Zebra’ is provided by Petar Dundov. The Croatian artist would have to be considered one of the most inspiring, original and daring producers of the last two decades. Petar makes intelligent electronic music that breaks boundaries, moves feet and twists minds; and with the likes of Sven Vath, Laurent Garnier, Hernan Cattaeno and Guy J singing his praises it would be hard to disagree. Currently riding one of the most creative streaks of his career, Petar makes his EDGE debut taking ‘The Last Zebra’ into tripped out, melodic territory. A deep, dubby groove gets adorned with timeless electronics as fragments from the original tease the brilliance to come. The centrepiece unveils the astral arp amidst acidic warbles and ghostly atmospherics, perfectly foreshadowing a spiritual conclusion

Launched in October amidst much praise, EDGE’s second release now builds on that momentum to kick off what promises to be a memorable year for the Belgian imprint.
