Odd Only finally returns back to their own imprint Joyfriend with a new record after their excursions on Empore and Musica Autonomica: “Carla” is the latest entry by the two and includes two originals and a remix by Schlepp Geist from Leipzig.
The title-giving piece of the record impresses with its sophisticated synthesizer harmonies on a mercilessly driving groove. Already part of Odd Only’s live set for a while, “Carla” has undoubtedly been written for the cellars of the world and will provide for one or another special moment on the dance floor with its intriguing mood.
Intuition, on the other hand, with its ironic title, presents a challenge: Its lavish and extraordinary drum arrangement sits enthroned on a broken bass drum groove and represents a welcome break from the usual realms of the 4-to-the-floor-formula. It does not stray too far though and keeps its compatibility with classic house and techno numbers.
In the end, “Schlepp Geist” presents his own interpretation of the title track, enriching it in particular with a multitude of atmospheric drum events, which weave the main motif into an always surprising and impelling context.
