It was only a matter of time before The Maghreban stepped up on a legendary dance imprint like R&S Records. The London-based house and techno craftsman has received nothing but praise off the back of his 12″s for his own Zoot label, with everyone from Actress to Nina Kraviz having played his tunes out in the rave. 01 Ideas is his first full-lengther, and it’s clear that this producer has a lot more to say than a few quirky dance tracks.

This release is full of life and meaning, pacing itself with each new cut instead of banging out the rave anthems hither and dither. There are elements of house and techno, of course, but these are infused with a sensibility for something altogether more abstract, like noise, power electronics and even something industrial. What is truly impressive is how The Maghreban brings it all back to the Levant, a distant yet perceptible influence at the core of all these tunes.
