Get Physical turn their attention to Croatia with a new series of EPs featuring exciting artists from the country. This first offering has been compiled by contributing artist Andrea Ljekaj and also gets its own special launch party in Zagreb on May 17th.
First up is Marina Karamarko, who has really made her mark with sets at Sankeys Ibiza, Sonar OFF and Sonus Festival in the last decade. She runs the ThanQ Music label and has been highlighted by Beatport as a real production visionary. ‘Hello’ is her intriguing track here and it has a spooky atmosphere with jittery percussion and paranoid vocals stitched into the marching groove. It’s tense throughout and always keeps you guessing.
Next is Andrea Ljekaj, a multi award-winning producer and international DJ with releases on Get Physical, Einmusika, Save Us and Selador. He has a weirdly euphoric sound and on ‘Tamo’ he layers up big drum rhythms, industrial textures and thundering claps into a bold and attention grabbing techno track.
Lastly is Insolate, a dark techno specialist who has landed on DJ Deep’s Deeply Rooted and played clubs like Rex, Tresor and Berghain. Her brilliantly driving ‘Nada’ is pure minimal techno in the style of Jeff Mills. It has hurrying drums and train track-like synths that race forwards and sweep you along for the sci-fi ride.
This EP is a great window into the bristling Croatian scene.
