A young-minded experimentalist whose forward-thinking productions have led us to him. Steve Huerta, the early 20-something Los Angeles native, whose debut EP on Amadeus has us all cringing for more.

EP opener and title track, “Take Me Closer,” solidifies itself within a simple groove. Throbbing bass punches, over-lined with bubbly synths and spontaneously layered vocal stabs gives “Take Me Closer” the club-friendly demeanor geared for the summer. A-side backing, “Real, Like (This),” delves within a darker atmosphere. The left-field sinker takes its filtered pad-work and lustrous percussion through six minutes of pure bliss.

What can’t be summed up from the previous two is built between “So Alone,” a haunting original whose structure is rather fit for a more intimate setting. The single races through atmospheric chord stabs and delayed vocals, giving the entire EP the depth .

For Remix duties we brought in Exploited young-gun Urulu, whose take on the original is nothing short of impressive. A widened groove, complimented by subtle vocal re-workings and a monotonous piano key stab, pushes “Take Me Closer” deeper into the abyss.
