There was a time when deep house meant the kind of things you play as you warmed up a dancefloor or the cuts you reached for at an afters when people were all jacked-out and yearning for a gentler rhythm. The likes of Mr Fingers and Jungle Wonz (Marshall Jefferson) pioneered this sound, and early releases by Strictly Rhythm and Nugroove carried the torch into the 90s, where artists like King Britt, St. Germain and Aqua Bassino took it to new heights (or should that be depths!). Since then, despite sporadic moments (“Time” by The Pachanga Boys), that feeling, for us, has been missing, replaced by more dancefloor driving deepness. One of the first artists we’ve heard in ages who is bringing that feeling back is Mallin.
