Sam Dexter is a New York City percussionist who has performed with Machito, Charles Mingus, Frank Sinatra, and James Brown. His electronic productions span deep house, tech house, and minimal deep tech across labels including Glasgow Underground, Hungarian Hot Wax, and Bar 25 Music.
The original version of “Roll Up” saw Sam Dexter and Drive7 team up with brilliant Boston vocalist Lee Wilson for a slow-burning journey into hypnotic synths and jazzy Moog solos. It was the perfect record for early doors grooving or hazy after-party vibing. Mallin has had a stellar year so far, delivering ultra-deep goodies for us (“Off My Mind”) and percussive locked-in jams for Hungarian Hot Wax (“Answers” w/ Josh Gregg & Dennis Wonder). This remix takes Lee Wilson’s tribute to toking and warps it into a bongo-led, bass-bumping hit.//
