After a little summer break we are back with another exciting new artist on Dirt Crew Recordings. This time we welcome Australian born and Berlin based Marcus Holder to our little label family. Combining a wide range of influences, he has jumped between multiple musical projects throughout the years. Beginning as a saxophone player in early high school, Marcus then graduated to become a metal guitarist. Early adulthood saw him take an interest in electronic music which led to buying a pair of turntables. As a DJ, he has played extensively throughout the Melbourne scene which saw him hold residencies at some of the city’s most famous clubs. This love of electronic music led him to Berlin where he resides now.

All tracks in the release were made during various forms of lockdown in Berlin. In his own words : This time really did wonders for my music production as it helped me to focus with fewer outside distractions. During this time I moved into a real studio with nice monitors and a sound-treated room. I worked on my mixdown skills and developed confidence in my tracks. I developed a sound that combines classic sounds with a modern twist. I like to play most of the instruments to give it a looser, more live kind of feel. A more human element.

The uber-groovey title track After is opening this EP with a nice deep feel and gentle contrast between the crunchy bassline and the jazzy piano chords. Followed by the floaty WEH, another lush deep mover with plenty of funk added in that bassline, topped with dubby drum elements and vocal snips this one is a true afterhours jam in our opinion, loose and mysterious. The third track The Fluff is a pure good times tune, with its beautiful chords melody and open arrangement it is the perfect late summer jam. Closing out this debut EP Marcus treats us to a nice slo-mo, spaced out track steering us out in the night with its deep swelling pads and gentle pace. Enjoy!//
