Entering 2022’s fourth quarter Eleven Of July’s BrokenHearted presents the second installment of their ‘Antologia’ series. Landing in April of this year, the inaugural edition not only has the distinction of being BrokenHearted’s first release but brought together a cohesive group of artists in Q.U.A.K.E, Riggel, Santiago Luna and Celestial Inside and label boss Eleven Of July. Electronic music tastemakers Adriatique, John OO Fleming and Mind Against and more quickly chimed in with support and with that BrokenHearted blazed a trail with their first offering. Now on the strength of Eleven Of July’s ‘Asleep’ EP, the label presents ‘Antologia II’ featuring (in order of appearance) Eleven Of July, Shamans, Lucio Consolo and Agustín Buaon, Atóm (IE) and Come To Me.

It’s been a prolific summer season for BrokenHearted label boss Eleven of July. Well received projects for Area Verde, Deep Tales and Outer Space Oasis have ridden the tidal waves of June’s ‘Asleep’ in fine style. Now anchoring the latest edition of ‘Antologia’, the globe-trotting artist presents his latest studio creation ‘Love Over Reason’. Eleven of July expounds his lavish future vision here, with obsessive rhythms and hyperspace melodies blanketing punishing beats and machine-gun grooves. Clever vocal co-actions marry metallic motifs throughout, while a pyrotechnic break preludes a finale of boundless energy that is perfectly dialed for peak time play.

Selection two finds Shamans making their label debut with ‘Valerian’. Comprised of Italian artists Alessio and Marco, Shamans first emerged in 2018 with a release via Three Hands Records. Quickly recognized for their melodic sound, the next four years would see the duo go on a creative swell, recording projects for Awen Records, Running Clouds, Timeless Moment and more. Now following on from their ‘Trinity’ EP, Shamans makes an impressive BrokenHearted debut with ‘Valerian’. Dark rebounding rhythms and thunderous basslines set the course for snatches of prophetic vocals and layers of flickering percussion. Trance-inducing arps make for an irresistible sound of now, adding a lighter monochrome leading into a cavernous interlude, before ultimately breaking off into a hypnotic finale.

Moving forward, Lucio Consolo and Agustín Buaon make their label debut with ‘Fárrago’. Based in Argentina and following on from years of work in the pop and alternative music scenes, Lucio and Agustin have quickly established themselves in the world of organic and melodic house. A combined discography cites releases via All Day I Dream, Vesta Records and Steyoyoke’s fledgling offshoot Inner Symphony. Now combining their extensive forces once again, Lucio and Agustin debut on BrokenHearted with ‘Farrago’. Led by a warm pulsating groove, tight rhythmic structures and astral stabs, its ethereal nature captivates from the outset. Stripping down into the main break a hopeful sensibility rises, as flickering arps give way to growling sonics and fuzzed out bass tones, onwards to a striking conclusion.

Hailing from Ireland and providing the fourth selection is Atóm (IE). The elusive artist shies away from the public eye, feeling that his identity should not be a role in his music, which explains his relative obscurity, instead wanting the music to be the project’s sole focus. A short but meticulous discography is highlighted by releases via Area Verde, Polyptych Noir, Univack and Us and Them Records where his astral sound has flourished. Always looking to blend and blur genres, Atom (IE) now makes his BrokenHearted debut with ‘Fragile’. Its muscular groove is perfectly sculpted, driving forward through a forest of electric rhythms, striking vocal samples and lively percussion. Continuing to delight with its unpredictable nature, the main break reveals a calmer sensibility as trance-like arps and heartfelt harmonics converge, juxtaposed perfectly before effortlessly segueing into a finale that is both tense and exhilarating.

The release concludes with Come To Me making his label debut with ‘Evolution of Dreams’. Hailing from Argentina, Gonzalo Comesaña aka Come To Me is at the beginning of his production journey with this being his first officially released track and with that he looks to explore progressive minded grooves and darker monochromes. Driving and energetic, astral motifs and mounds of pulsating bass delight across the first act, as nasally acid lines add depth and space coming out of a tastefully tense break, eventually giving way to the main theme for a euphoric final movement. It rounds out a superb second edition of ‘Antologia’, continuing what would have to be considered a great first year for BrokenHearted. Highly recommended.//
