William Jourdain (Montreal, CA), known under the alias Automatisme, is a generative ambient dub techno artist. This album marks his second release on the Archipel label, following Unlocked (2024). Jourdain is a true sound sculptor-an artist who treats sound design as an act of shaping and carving, using principles like repetition and contrast to evoke emotional states such as intensity and release. Generative music is not for everyone, but Automatisme thrives in this terrain. He draws from deep roots-early Chain Reaction releases, classic dub, and artists like Vladislav Delay-to create experimental pieces that blur the line between sonic art and dreamlike exploration. This album is intended to be experienced as a whole, with each track unfolding like a scene in a film-evocative, immersive, and connected by a larger narrative.
