On the one hand, we have seasoned DJs like Torren Foot, David Penn, Adam Beyer & Mary Jane downloading it and giving feedback like this is fun, love it, end of the night ballad and This is really classy, love it!. Then another well-respected DJ told us in no uncertain terms, He neednt have bothered, its shocking. How does Kevin McKay respond to that? Sometimes I want to make records that are just fun, he says. Not every release has to be a serious piece of dance music. The industry, however, doesnt like this. I constantly hear that people hate covers, or a well-known label exec is on Twitter telling people to stop playing Abba. Thankfully, I dont have a traditional label, and I dont have to follow these snobby guidelines. However, I understand that not everyone wants releases with vocals youd hear at a wedding on a label like Glasgow Underground. So Ive set up a new label that allows me to do whatever I want. WTF is the name of the label, and the first release brings together two of my favourite things, 80s vocals and big disco energy. This idea came from a DM I got from a fan, asking me to remix Foreigner. I wasnt sure I could do it, but after the session, I wasnt just convinced – Id fallen in love with the track. After sending it out to DJs, the response was so positive, I set out to create a legal, releasable version. Up steps Simon Ellis on vocal duties, and here we have it, the 80s classic I Want To Know What Love Is turbocharged for 2025 fun-time parties.
