A Fragile Geography: Reworks. Ostinato as Resistance—Reimagined. A decade after its release, A Fragile Geography returns transformed. This limited edition cassette is a companion to the AFG10 anniversary reissue—an echo, a reinterpretation, and a quiet act of reanimation. Reworks offers new sonic readings of Irisarris landmark compositions, each track title intact but reimagined by a select group of artists. The fourth piece to be revealed is Mabe Frattis rework of Ausencia. Mabe Fratti opens with a cinematic, dreamlike, Lynchian reimagining of Hiatus in her native Spanish (Ausencia). She threads cello and voice so wondrously that her rendering feels at once hauntingly beautiful and disquieting. Emotionally charged melodies shift in unexpected directions, while her soft, intimate vocals hover above Irisarris brooding synth textures. Frattis gift for blending experimental and avant pop sensibilities with visceral, emotionally powerful expression shines resplendently here. She gives voice to Irisarris reflections on the passage of time and his growing desire to reconnect with his familial roots. Mastered with care by Stephan Mathieu and featuring a reinterpreted version of the original cover by Daniel Castrejón, this cassette refracts the language of the original through a new lens. A fragile geography, again—less a revisiting than a drifting: across time, across interpretation, into the uncanny.
