Behind the Techno (Peak Time / Driving) : Release Notes

In the early 1990s, aliases weren’t all about hiding. They were a practical way to organize and release a lot of music, especially if you were putting out records fast and wanted each idea to have its own space. Mars 31 Heaven comes from that world. The name hints at something personal, not cosmic, with “Heaven” there simply because it completes the phrase. For Kim Rapatti, it was a way to keep a more inward thread separate from the main Mono Junk output, while still moving inside the same self-built universe around DUM Records. Mars 31 Heaven Collected Works ’93-’95 is the first time the Mars 31 Heaven material has been gathered in one place. The recordings were originally scattered across compilations, with “Little Elephant” later resurfacing on a Mono Junk release. Everything here has been restored from the original DAT tapes and remastered by Michael Diekmann. You get early cornerstones like “Osaka House Remix” and “World of Isolation” from DUM Records’ Blue File Compilation era, plus vinyl-first appearances of “Violins” and “Abyss” after years as CD-only tracks, and the original mix of “Osaka House,” previously unreleased. Housed in full-colour sleeves designed by Ed Cheverton.
