Full of flair and cold as ice, Parisian prodigy KRYM joins the label with the Connected EP. Five tracks darting between breakbeat, acid, techno and electro without ever losing their bite. Opening cut Exclusive wastes no time getting to work. Hard and fast, just how we like it – dissonant pads wash over squelching bass while energising chants drag us deep into the dance. Proper heads-down business from the off. Then, Hear The Crowd shifts the energy into deeper territory, blurring the lines between breakbeat, footwork and electro. Hypnotic grooves and rolling percussion lock the rhythm in place before breathy lo-fi keys drift through the closing moments, adding a welcome touch of atmosphere. On Flow, KRYM loosens things up without losing momentum. Shuffling drums, pulsing stabs, bouncing bass and melodically chopped vocals all weave together in a playful display of production. Signal pushes even more pressure. Stomping breaks, arpeggiated synths and more acid than Albert Hofmann’s laboratory – this one is tough with a capital T. The tune builds around pulsating pads and four-to-the-floor rumbling kicks, delivering thundering acid techno at its finest. Closing cut Jammer wastes no time bringing things back to full impact. Hardstyle-esque saturated kicks and expertly placed breaks roll aggressively beneath rhythmic vocal chops. Minimal in essence but heavy where it counts, KRYM’s final offering is certain to do maximum damage.
