Ushering in a new season, W welcomes New York-based artist MANTi for her long-awaited debut on the label with Energy. Presenting two original productions from the Tehran-raised producer, the EP reveals a sound language that fuses primal rhythmic instinct with sleek, forward-facing design for an arresting introduction that captures the physical and emotional charge at the core of her artistry. Opening with the titular “Energy,” MANTi draws us into a restless mesh of animated percussive bursts that scatter across a sturdy rhythmic frame before a swiveling low-end sequence locks the groove into place. With the engine now fully engaged, clipped chords and distorted vocal fragments begin to surface, sharpening the track’s nocturnal aura. Each element is deployed with intent, allowing the tension to simmer as the groove deepens and the atmosphere thickens, transforming the dancefloor into a charged field of movement. On the flip side, “Obsidian” reveals a more shadowy dimension of MANTi’s sonic palette. Built around a pulsing groove, the track opens with glimmering atmospheric shards that gradually give way to corroded swells and textured layers that deepen its sense of gravity. As the piece unfolds, a sultry male vocal drifts through the arrangement, casting a sensual darkness across the composition. The tension gradually folds inward before unraveling in a dramatic collapse, allowing “Obsidian” to dissolve into a striking moment of controlled entropy, signaling a memorable debut by MANTi.
