Volume 12 of the Clarisse showcase series brings together five house bangers for the month of March, chasing away the clouds and putting itself in the box seat for summer. Having already proved who’s ‘Stronger’ last year, Italian Igor Zanga offers a funky beatdown that’s like flying down a water slide and banging every available surface in time with every splash. It’s all in a bid to beat the ‘Final Boss’, a jack-in-the-box that all Clarisse fans will love, claiming victory with its confirmation of the “crown on my head, I’m certified”. A headliner from Clarisse’s volume 11, KICA’s ode to ‘Ana Bonita’ comes with an ear-catching, flamenco-ish breakdown straight out of a soap opera. This introduction of town square accordions enhances and entertains a swift house clash of styles, full of quick-fingered percussion and a brain-bugging vocal twitch sounding like the bark of a robotic dog. Label boss Mendo takes centre stage with the flourishing vocal house of ‘Alguna Locura’, passionately primed for daytime airwaves and nights on the town with its gurgling drums and striking guitar licks. Certified to soundtrack many holiday memories this summer, this one’s as romantic as it is balanced on a knife-edge. Bouncy drums out the blocks help Roxy Delgado make ‘Ratatata’ ring around arenas, the returning Venezuelan-via-Miami producer putting on a hot shuffle with ragga vocals running around the stage looking to rough up dancefloor darlings. A groove that digs in and won’t let go, the same can be said for its irresistible call-n-response interaction with sweaty crowds.
