Behind the Bass / Club : Release Notes

Back at the start of 2023, Bruce was approached by a band of young and ambitious lads, who wanted him to mix and co-produce their debut album ‘Nacre’. The band of course were Quade, and the union proved to make perfect sense: Bruce flourished, interpreting and facilitating the band’s vision gracefully, sealing the relationship for projects to come. For the band’s sophomore album, both Quade and Bruce really proved the scope of their abilities: ‘The Foel Tower’ won the hearts of fans and critics across the board, who celebrated it’s “gorgeous” and “tender” sound to great acclaim; it was a work that all involved could be truly proud of. But Bruce felt there the story wasn’t over yet… Whilst the world they had built clearly stood defined and dignified, the sheer abundance of emotion and rich textures was simply too alluring; Bruce couldn’t resist taking ‘The Foel Tower’ even deeper. Off the leash he had total freedom to go wild: dubbing in wild style, he weaved and wrestled with the sounds, connecting to the true emotion and expanding it to full frame. The “doomer sad boy, ambient-dub, folk, experimental post-rock” is blown into a whole new, hypnotic realm. Through rattling, analogue distortion and huge spaced out effects, the band’s vision explodes in a supernova of dub, noise and tenderness. Bruce’s deft of touch and penchant for dynamic feeling, maximises the sonic potential of such a promising and talented band; marking his personal contribution towards what will hopefully continue to be a flourishing and greatly significant musical journey.
