For the third installment of the Collaborations series, Artefakt invites KMRU into an extended dialogue rooted in improvisation, recorded across two distinct sessions and environments. The first took place in December 2023 at Pulse, a project space housed in a wooden cabin among the pine forests of Brandenburg, surrounded by a snow-covered landscape. The second session took place in Artefakts Berlin studio, where both piano movements were recorded and the arrangements took shape. All tracks were later mixed by Robin Koek in his Amsterdam studio. Collaborations is a series curated by Artefakt on their own imprint De Stijl, inviting friends and likeminded artists into live studio improvisations that capture new musical connections through instinctive exchange. KMRU, the Nairobi-born, Berlin-based sound artist, is known for his immersive use of field recordings, ambient textures and experimental composition. His textural and harmonic sound signature naturally resonates with Artefakts own world of hypnotic, spatial and emotionally charged electronic music. The result is a record shaped by environment, improvisation and close listening. Artefakt and KMRU blur the lines between ambient, acoustic and electronic forms, creating a spacious and contemplative collection of improvisations.

KMRU is Joseph Kamaru, a Nairobi-born, Berlin-based Kenyan sound artist who produces ambient and electronic music. His releases span electronica, ambient, and peak-time techno across labels including Editions Mego and On Board Music.
