One of techno’s most consistently compelling voices is back with an intriguingly evolved sound on the mighty Filth on Acid. Frankfurt-based Gregor Tresher has been a cornerstone of the European techno circuit for over two decades. Emerging in the early 2000s, he built his reputation through releases on his own long-running imprint Break New Soil. Tresher is as at home in a club at 4am as he is headlining a main stage, and his productions have always reflected that range. The title track ‘Ghosts Of Amsterdam’ sets an unsettling tone early as an edgy, quick stepping cut that doesn’t hang around and has eerie pads, haunting chords and a sense of unknown threat in the air as big, textured bass powers on. Orpheus is a more ethereal sound with liquid melodies cascading down the face as techno pressure builds from below but with depth and emotion. Phalanx closes things out in cosmic darkness with subtle euphoric undertones and endlessly rippling synths. This is Tresher at his most assured and evolved but without losing his signature touch.
