With Adventures of the Past Vol 2, Markus Sommer continues his archive series with twelve previously unreleased productions written between 2013 and 2019. The release offers a wider look into Sommer’s studio language before and around the development of his later sound — raw, instinctive and deeply connected to the underground club culture surrounding Frankfurt, Offenbach and Berlin. Across the release, Sommer moves between deep house, acid, electro, techno, UK garage, tech house and minimal moods without forcing the tracks into one fixed direction. Instead, Vol 2 works like a selector’s archive: a collection of club-focused sketches, machine-driven grooves and late-night electronic moods that each carry their own moment and purpose. There are shades of Detroit electro and machine funk, but also the warmer, looser house sensibility that runs through his work as a DJ, producer and co-founder of Pager Records. Rather than a retrospective in the traditional sense, Adventures of the Past Vol 2 feels like a recovered hard drive of club memories — honest, energetic and full of personality.
