SLAPPED set out on a journey based on an intention to platform tracks that slap, things that have an impact on the dancefloor. There’s a point in time after the peak energy resets on the dancefloor where the depth of a track played resonates. Music that is “less” ends up speaking more than the peaks. Their new VA, À Fleur de Son, attempts to unearth a collection of tracks that slap, but are more subtle in their nature. On the edge of sound. The brink of the moment. This collection of seven tracks finds the slap within deep tech, scratches for the maximal edge of the minimal. From the subdued, caressing horns lines in Borak’s “Rushing For Love” to the infamous 70’s drum breaks in DUZA’s “Baby”; from the hypnotic spoken word in Hi Milio’s “Free Your Mind” to the dusty soul refrain in TheClaw’s “Your Body”; these tracks have reminded us that minimalism does not fend off the unexpected. Debuting two artist’s with their first distributed release, SLAPPED taps into their local communities & dear friends to deliver something raw, authentic, and free from the pretension that abounds in today’s underground.
