The fifteenth issue of IDWT arrives with its founder at the helm. Berny, a producer never happy to exist comfortably within the boundaries of House and Techno, always determined to stretch them further, delivers Zoinger, a track as sharp and unsettling as the word it borrows from American slang: a zinger, a cutting remark, something that catches you off guard and leaves a mark. A warm, slightly distorted bassline moves through a loop that never resolves where you expect it to, sliding chromatically, leaving notes suspended a beat too long. The harmony shifts over the course of minutes rather than bars, never quite arriving anywhere, evolving constantly. Layered synth pads with offset LFOs generate a powerful internal pulse that runs beneath the surface, felt more than heard. Details are everywhere and almost subliminal. The track never explodes, it thickens, thins, and returns darker than before. Berny’s signature Deep, Dark and Jacking sound, refined and at its best.
