Behind the Techno (Peak Time / Driving) : Release Notes
DaShadow (Ronald Kuijten, 1982) develops his work from a direct approach: used eurorack as gear, analog synthesis, hardware at the core, and a progressive construction of sound. His trajectory —from Another World on Kromatones to live performances across the underground circuit in the Netherlands and Belgium— leads here to an album with a broader range of nuances. This release builds a diverse sonic palette within acid, avoiding a single interpretation of the genre. It is not purely front-facing acid: more melodic acid passages coexist, where sequences integrate into harmonic structures, alongside more spatial and open moments, focused on depth and atmosphere. This alternation defines the journey. The SpaceAcid concept materializes through hypnotic 303 lines, extended pads, and chords that accompany without overwhelming. Melodies serve a structural role: they sustain and envelop without excess, although at certain points they step forward with greater presence to create contrast. Rhythmically, the album introduces clear variations: from more linear developments to faster acid breaks, adding tension and movement without disrupting the overall coherence. The use of machines such as the Roland TB-303, SH-101, Alpha Juno, Dreadbox Abyss, Yocto 808, Nava 909, and Kawai synthesizers is not incidental—it defines an organic sound, with controlled imperfections and distinct character. The result is an album that does not reduce acid to a single register, but unfolds it in multiple forms—melodic, spatial, and rhythmic—while maintaining a consistent sense of immersion and continuity.
