Luke Hess and Thor first met in New York in January 2015, when they played their first show together. What started as mutual respect for each other’s DJ sets and productions quickly grew into a real friendship. They stayed in touch over the years, connected by a shared love of techno, dub techno and the craft of analog sound. In January 2022, Thor traveled to Detroit as Luke’s guest for a DeepLabs event and a week of exploring the city. During that time, they spent long days and nights inside the DeepLabs studio, surrounded by vintage machines, rare gear and samples from the Thule vaults. Over seventy-two focused hours, they recorded and shaped the music that would become this EP. The result is rooted deeply in Detroit. It blends Thor’s stripped-back, Icelandic minimal style with Luke’s warm, soulful Detroit touch. Built on friendship and trust, the EP captures the spirit of the city – raw, focused and timeless – while honoring the underground culture that brought them together.
