Behind the Electronica : Release Notes
With clear echoes of house, electro and techno, Some Tools 1 highlights Jacob Stoys renewed interest in the dynamics of the dance floor. Some Tools is more of a sonic collection that captures the Berlin-based artists stream of consciousness rather than the result of a fully-fledged plan. Its his most straightforward set of tunes in ages. Where his recent releases Das unendliche Konstrukt and Overload showcased his experimental side, Some Tools marks a step towards a more sonically adventurous dance club. On the A-Side you have a professional techno bender with dreamlike synth pads which could run forever. A2 leans more into the emotional side of aquatic electro. The flip side comes with the further electro club anthem with Stoy on the vocals. Its one of those tracks you cant get out of your head. B2 drives you home on a noisy layer of textures and 808 grooves. Machines were recorded directly on tape to capture the raw energy and grittiness. A perfect antidote to our over-polished world. These tracks are snapshots of different moments and states of mind, born out of spontaneous jams in early mornings and after long nights with an urge to capture a particular feeling before it disappears again. An environment Jacob Stoy feels most comfortable when making music. The result can feel raw and direct, then suddenly deep and immersive. Electronic dance music as a conversation between machines and oneself, and maybe even a pretty good form of therapy that not only helps the creator but also the listeners.
