Behind the Techno (Raw / Deep / Hypnotic) : Release Notes
Seven years after his last solo release on Schimmer Records, Egotot returns with “Death Returns”, a five-track EP marking the 34th release on Liquid One, the digital sublabel of Schimmer Records. As the founder of Schimmer Records and its sublabels Liquid One and Groovebox, Egotot has been shaping the collective’s musical direction through label management, podcast curation and release selection. Following his last solo EP in 2023, he now returns to his own imprint with a collection of previously unreleased material, combining older productions with more recent work. The EP opens with “Floor Vibration”, a steadily evolving track built around rising tension and a continuous sense of anticipation. “Floating Peace” follows with a driving, atmospheric synth sequence, contrasted by scattered, processed percussion elements that introduce an unpredictable rhythmic character. “Managed Chaos” moves into more restless territory, where seemingly disordered elements gradually come together before opening up and closing again. “Pass To The Left” takes a more direct approach, driven by tight rhythms and an extended, evolving pad that stretches across the arrangement before reaching its peak in the break. Closing the EP, “Dub Digger” shifts towards a deeper, more restrained atmosphere, combining weighty low-end frequencies with a laid-back groove and dub influences. Bringing together different periods of Egotot’s production, “Death Returns” reflects an ongoing exploration of rhythm, texture and tension. five tracks that move between hypnotic structures, controlled chaos and deep, functional techno.
