Behind the House : Release Notes

For nearly three decades, Wah Wah 45s has stood as a beacon of genre-blurring, vinyl-driven, gig-fuelled music culture in the UK. Founded in the late 90s and guided ever since by Dom Servini — North London DJ, radio host, party starter and long-standing tastemaker — the label continues to champion timeless songwriting, off-beat creativity and the raw energy of live performance. With deep roots in soul, jazz, funk and electronic music, Wah Wah 45s remains proudly independent and fiercely committed to the community that has supported it from the very beginning. This year sees one of the most ambitious releases in the label’s history: a 2 x 12″ release that features twelve highly sought-after remixes alongside a double-sided 7-inch with a further 2 remixes, bringing together a remarkable constellation of artists who embody the spirit and breadth of Wah Wah 45s. Across three meticulously curated records, the music glides between soulful songwriting, jazz-infused arrangements, funk-driven grooves, electronic textures and Afro-inspired rhythms — a vivid snapshot of the label’s past, present and future, and a celebration of independence, community, vinyl culture and the belief that great music always transcends genre. The second single comes fromLand Of Echo, the latest project from Rob Mac — who ran the legendary club night Scratch alongside Matt Smooth and the late Richie Pitch. His trackLean, featuring young Japanese vocalistAyanna Homma, is reimagined by the inimitableIG Culture, the Co-Op and Plastic People legend whose refix brings a fresh new feeling with an unmistakable twist. Rob explains more: “I had just started working with Ayana when I had to call her to say I’d lost this track and others we’d been working on in a massive computer crash and no, I hadn’t backed up. Thankfully, she said she could be straight round to re-record, and together we managed to recreate and possibly improve it. Incredibly, this has now led to us being blessed with a shiny new remix from one of the true beat pioneers of our time: IG Culture. He’s taken this track and built his own world with it a hard-hitting, incessant beat seasoned with sampled horn stabs, flutes, cowbells, trademark vocal FX, and Rhodes, all working together to create a remix aimed squarely at the discerning dancefloor. We thank you, IG, for adding a new twist to this track.”
