Ancient Methods

Ancient Methods is a Berlin-based industrial techno project that began in 2007 as a duo featuring Michael Wollenhaupt and Conrad Protzmann. Originally operating as a collaborative effort, the project became a solo venture under Wollenhaupt's direction after Protzmann's departure. The act operates under several aliases including Trias, Midnight Madness, and Backseat Driver, and runs its own Ancient Methods label alongside releases on established imprints.

The project delivers driving, peak-time techno with heavy industrial influences, releasing music across labels including Token, aufnahme + wiedergabe, Hospital Productions, and Persephonic Sirens. Ancient Methods' sound combines relentless four-four rhythms with harsh, metallic textures and dystopian atmospheres, positioning the music squarely in the harder spectrum of contemporary techno. The project's output spans from 2014 to 2023, with eight documented releases that maintain consistent intensity while exploring variations in industrial soundscape construction and rhythmic programming.
