Andy Newland Artist Bio

Andy Newland draws inspiration from his knowledge of being on the dance floor at some of the finest clubs in the early 90s. He fuses this with a passion for new music and the ability to connect with what the crowd needs throughout the night. It’s all about taking them through a constantly morphing sound of deep grooves, percussive beats, heavy bass lines and spaced out EFXs. All this is tied together with a sweeping, soaring musical element that is the Newland trademark.

2003 saw the launch of Audio Deluxe, it’s aim to bring the leading up & coming DJs to London. The likes of Kazell, Luke Fair, Anthony Pappa, Chris Fortier, and Jimmy Van M have all played the intimate venues around the city. The night also gave exclusive London debut performances to Shiloh, Matthew Dekay & Mike Hiratzka.

November 2006 saw the launch of a new party called ‘Twisted Audio’ where Andy was joined by Sarah Rodin and Warren Mooney who were part of Twisted Melon. This night has cemented a reputation as London’s leading night for progressive-tinged house. The party launched with Omid 16B at the legendary T2 at Turnmills and continued with sell out parties in Shoreditch with Luke Fair, aboard a boat with Paolo Mojo and by warming up for SOS and Darren Emerson in the main room at Turnmills.

The Ministry of Sound has also played host to Twisted Audio with Andy warming up for Sander Kleinenberg in the Box, while in the Baby Box they have supported the mighty Sasha for Renaissance, Sander again, SOS and Luke Fair.

John Digweed has also welcomed Twisted Audio in to the Bedrock party by inviting them to be part of the night with regular rooms there for the last few years. This has seen them rubbing shoulders with Eric Prydz, X-press 2, Jimmy Van M, Jonathan Lisle and Neil Quigley.

An invite from Anthony Pappa, to do a mix for his ‘Moments’ radio show, lead to a debut at 2008’s WMC in Miami where Andy played alongside Pappa at Karu and Y, with Luke Fair and Polefolder at Frisky Radio’s party & again with Pappa at the ‘Moments’ CD launch at the Shelborne.

Outside of the London scene, Andy has played across the planet with regular gigs at Avalon in Los Angeles with Kazell, Hybrid & Bad Boy Bill. In San Francisco with Jondi & Spesh, and in New York with Holosound.

This sits alongside regular visits across Europe to play in Greece, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Bulgaria. In addition, a bi-monthly residency in Romania at Hush Hush in Brasov means those air miles have been cranked up.

Late 2005 saw Andy’s debut production hit the stores on Source of Gravity recordings. The chunky melodic anthem he produced alongside Section 75, aka Lee Pennington, found its way into many big name sets. The follow up releases ‘Brain Freeze’ & ‘Haven’t a Clue’ were released on Mashtronic’s label & also featured on John Digweed’s ‘Kiss 100’ show. This EP hit the top 20 in the Balance promote chart & the follow up, ‘Turn it down’, also hit the top 25 in the same chart.

Future releases with Lee Pennington & New York’s ‘Holosound’ will be appearing on the shelves alongside the classic piano house of Apolonia remixed by Andy and Mike Miller. This has been hammered for many months by Nick Warren & Luke Fair & is set to be a big release in 2008.
