Bakongo

Bakongo operates as an alias for Wayne Goodlitt, better known as UK garage producer Roska, focusing specifically on percussive afro-tribal sounds. The British artist launched the Bakongo project in 2019 with his first release appearing on Hotflush Recordings that September. Previously performing under the name Uncle Bakongo, Goodlitt has maintained this separate identity to explore different sonic territories from his main Roska output.

The Bakongo sound spans bass-heavy club music, peak time techno, and leftfield house, incorporating breakbeat elements that reflect Goodlitt's UK bass background. His releases appear on respected labels including Livity Sound Recordings and his own Roska Kicks & Snares imprint, demonstrating the project's credibility within both the Bristol bass scene and broader UK underground circuit. The music typically features driving percussion patterns and tribal influences, operating at club-ready tempos while maintaining the rhythmic complexity that defines Goodlitt's broader catalog. Since 2019, Bakongo has released seven records, with his most recent output appearing in July 2024.
