Bantu

BANTU is a 13-piece Nigerian collective formed in 1996 and based in Lagos, led by Ade Bantu. The group operates as an award-winning ensemble that includes members Amechi, Ade Odukoya, Abiodun Odukoya, and Abiodun "Wurasamba" Oke among others. Despite their Lagos base, the group has connections to Köln, Germany, and has been active in the international world music scene for nearly three decades.

BANTU creates a fusion of Afrobeat, Afrofunk, Highlife and Yoruba music that translates into modern electronic contexts as Afro House and Deep House. Their electronic releases appear on labels including Insomniac Records and NO ART, with their first electronic release dating to August 2024. The group's sound spans from ambient textures to melodic house and techno, incorporating traditional Nigerian rhythms with contemporary electronic production. Their music reflects Lagos's urban energy, blending the city's complexity into both their acoustic ensemble work and their newer electronic offerings that have gained traction in house music circles.
