About

Chris Fortier is an American DJ and producer from Melbourne who emerged as part of the early electronic dance music movement in the United States. He formed the trance production duo Fade with Neil Kolo and co-founded Fade Records in 1994, establishing himself as a key figure in American trance and progressive trance. Fortier also produces under the alias 40oz and began releasing material through Electrobuzz-tracked labels in 2010.

Fortier's sound spans tech house, progressive house, house, peak time techno, and deep house across his 31 releases from 2010 to 2025. He releases material on established labels including Bedrock Records, Black Hole Recordings, and Culprit, alongside his own Fade Records imprint. His production style has evolved from his trance origins toward a broader house and techno palette, maintaining the progressive sensibilities that defined his early work while incorporating the driving energy characteristics of peak time techno formats.
