Ciel operates as a duo comprising Michelle Hindriks and Tim Spencer, based in Brighton on England's south coast. The project originally featured members from The Netherlands, Spain and the UK before consolidating into its current formation. Ciel began releasing music in November 2018 and has issued 11 releases across multiple labels including their own imprint NAFF.
Ciel produces house and deep house tracks with excursions into leftfield house and techno, electronica, and raw hypnotic trance. The duo releases on Coastal Haze, Spectral Sound, Axe On Wax Records, and the not-for-profit label Needs, in addition to their own NAFF imprint. Their sound spans from deeper, more contemplative house productions to harder-edged leftfield material, demonstrating range across the house and techno spectrum. Ciel released their debut album "Call Me Silent" in 2025, marking a significant milestone in their catalog.
