Cristian Varela Durán is a Spanish techno DJ and producer born in 1975 who began releasing music in 2010. He operates under several aliases including Chris Vareland, Carlos Duran, and The Unknown Artist. Varela founded Pornographic Recordings and owns Donkey Head Recordings, establishing himself as both an artist and label operator within the techno scene.

Varela produces peak time driving techno alongside raw, deep, and hypnotic variations, spanning 43 releases across his career. His music appears on labels including Black Codes Experiments, Intec, Pornographic Recordings, Induxtriall Records, and materia. He also ventures into tech house, minimal deep tech, and electronica, demonstrating range beyond straight techno while maintaining the driving energy characteristic of his primary output.
