About

Fatback Band is a New York-based group formed in 1970 in Fayetteville, originally conceived by drummer Bill Curtis to merge New Orleans "fatback" jazz beats into funk music. The band was active throughout the 1970s and 1980s, releasing 22 albums across labels including Perception Records, Event Records Inc., Spring Records, and Cotillion. Members have included Reuben Wilson, Donna McGhee, Janice Christie, Gerry Thomas, and Deborah Cooper, with the group achieving hits like "(Do The) Spanish Hustle," "I Like Girls," and "Gotta Get My Hands on Some (Money)."

In their contemporary electronic form, Fatback Band produces nu disco, house, breaks, afro house, and bass house tracks exclusively on Cosmos Music, with 8 releases between June and October 2025. Their modern sound spans multiple tempos and energy levels, moving from disco-influenced house grooves to harder bass house productions and breakbeat variations. The group's electronic output maintains their funk foundation while incorporating contemporary dance floor elements across the afro house and UK bass spectrum.
