About

Frankie Knuckles, born Francis Nicholls in the South Bronx in 1955, established himself as a DJ at Chicago's Warehouse nightclub from 1977 to 1982. His residency at the Warehouse became so influential that it gave house music its name, with Chicago locals using "house" to describe the sound heard at his club. Knuckles died in March 2014 in Chicago due to complications from diabetes.

His releases span house and peak-time driving techno, appearing on labels including SoSure Music, Music Man Records, and Trax Records. Knuckles' sound combines the foundational elements of Chicago house with soul influences, maintaining both dance floor accessibility and the driving energy that defined his Warehouse sets. His production work extends from 2012 through 2025, demonstrating a catalog that ranges from classic house grooves to more intense, peak-time oriented tracks suitable for main room environments.
